Your Favorite Software

Please take the Pole on this page, if your software is not listed or would like to just make a comment regarding what software you prefer to use for your web projects.
Start with category like website software or graphics etc.
Then give the product name and if possible a brief summary of what you like about your program.

Please keep in mind this post is not to bash any one software.
This is more to broaden your horizons and maybe get some answer's about software you are curious about and get real user experiences without chasing endless review sites who's only purpose is to promote affiliates.

Website Design basics

First and foremost your website design should be clean and simple.
Stay away from flash or excessive images unless you don't care about rankings
or having your site show up in search results.
Make it easy for your visitors to find the information they are looking for as quickly and easily as possible, if they have to hunt and peck and weed through countless affiliate links they will usually leave and go to another site.

Make sure your navigation is easy to follow, don't use cryptic page / link names.
Choose your colors wisely, what may seem appealing to you from an artistic point of view may not be appealing to someone else.

Link building and theme relevancy

Lets go over some basics for improving your search engine rankings via links.
Link building is a key element to help you get your site found on the internet, but you can't have just any old links.
In order for your links to work for you they need to be to and from relevant sources.

While some may think a link is a link, today this is not true, search engines will take into account who you are linking to and also who is linking back to you.
If for instance you are selling Green Widgets, you would want to share links with other company's or sources that deal in widget accessories,
widget holders or widget forums etc.

Do not share links with sources that have nothing to do with widgets as this may actually harm your rankings.
Now to some this may seem counter productive to have links leading away from your site to a potential competitor but in the long run both company's benefit.
Another great way to increase your inbound links is to write an article about your Green widgets, try to incorporate keywords you use on your site but don't over do it.
Then you can post your article at places like http://ezinearticles.com/
In this way your site is linked to directly from the article and if your article is well written other sites with similar interests may use your article and they will link to you as the author thus building your links and getting you more traffic.
